Efficiency and Mergers in English Higher Education 1996/97 to 2008/09: Parametric and Non-parametric Estimation of the Multi-input Mutli-output Distance Function
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper explores the issue of efficiency in English higher education using data envelopment analysis and stochastic frontier analysis to estimate an output distance function (which incorporates measures of both quantity and quality of teaching and research inputs and outputs) over a thirteen-year period. The study compares the efficiency estimates derived from various estimation methods, and uses the results to provide guidance to researchers, managers and policy-makers on undertaking efficiency studies. The length of the study under consideration allows a preliminary statistical investigation of the effects on efficiency of merger activity in higher education. JEL Classification: I23, C01, C33, D24

Stochastic Non-Parametric Frontier Analysis
In this paper we develop an approach that synthesizes the best features of the two main methods in the estimation of production efficiency. Specically, our approach first allows for statistical noise, similar to Stochastic frontier analysis, and second, it allows modeling multiple-inputs-multiple-outputs technologies without imposing parametric assumptions on production relationship, similar to...

The present study is the efficiency of Iranian industrial universities using non-parametric methods of data envelopment analysis and random border analysis parameter for input variables (number of incoming students, number of faculty members, number of staff and budget) and output (specific income, Has evaluated the number of students studying, the number of graduates and conference papers) and...
متن کاملA new non oriented models for calculating the efficiency of decision-making units in the presence of flexible variables
In assessing the relative efficiency of decision-maker units by classical Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models, the status of the data is determined from the input or output points of views. In real issues, there are some data whose statuses are debatable. Some decision making units consider them as input to achieve higher efficiency while some other decision making units consider them ...
متن کاملRegression Modeling for Spherical Data via Non-parametric and Least Square Methods
Introduction Statistical analysis of the data on the Earth's surface was a favorite subject among many researchers. Such data can be related to animal's migration from a region to another position. Then, statistical modeling of their paths helps biological researchers to predict their movements and estimate the areas that are most likely to constitute the presence of the animals. From a geome...

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a non-parametric method for estimation of production function. In DEA, each decision making unit (DMU) has a number of input and output and deals with performance evaluation of DMUs using frontier efficiency. Each one of the inputs and outputs plays a basic role in the performance evaluation of DMU which they can be named as direct impact factor. Inputs and ou...
